The Christmas in Europe guidelines lay down that each delegation should present one or more songs, a sketch or else a dance for the so-called cultural evening. Each year we witness a very variable show in which the good performances are seen beside less good ones, in which some delegations have obviously rehearsed their numbers well, while others more or less improvise. And sometimes the delegations just duck out.

This year in Poznan most of the delegations came up to scratch with their Christmas carols, their (more or less successful) sketches, as well as with dances such as those presented by the schools form Belarus and the Ukraine whose finale set the room alight with a boisterous performance which will not be quickly forgotten by the whole audience, who wildly applauded the exploit both for its physicality and for its perfectly executed choreography.

Here they are in the order in which they performed:

GUIDED TOUR OF POZNAN

A comprehensive visit of Poznan and the surrounding area had been planned for Monday December 7th, but because of the bad weather the trip around the lake had to be abandoned, while the guided tour of the city went ahead as planned. The fairly large group was entrusted to trainee guides from the school supervised by a professional guide. A whole series of visits was scheduled, starting at 09.00 with a short tram journey, and continuing on foot until just after 13.00.
The visit included the brick-built gothic style cathedral together with the remains of its ancient foundations; the magnificent main square with its renaissance buildings; the city hall with its two rams whose heads collide at midday; St Stanislas church; Adam Mickiewicz university with its particularly majestic lecture theatre; and finally the old brewery, beautifully converted into an enormous shopping centre. As the visit progressed the group gradually shrank so that there was only a handful of people left at the end of this walk which was highly informative in more ways than one!
