The 24 stands, representing 18 European countries, were the star attraction of Poznan’s Christmas in Europe 2009. Each delegation had done its very best, sometimes in the face of extreme difficulties because of the transport, to offer the visitors a wide range of the charms of Christmas in the country represented. Sometimes one particular aspect or another had been given special emphasis.

Of course the specialities from each country were on display: spirits and liqueurs of all kinds, artefacts, fancy china, little cakes of all shapes and colours – a superb array of tastes and smells.
The students who were guardians of these temples wore their national or regional costumes as they offered these tasty morsels to the visitors, most of whom came from schools in Poznan.
But it was a great shame for the organisers and the participants that so few visitors came, given the short duration of the exhibition and the large number of potential visitors in a city the size of Poznan.

During the event the ‘ECHO’ men’s choir gave a performance of Polish Christmas works, though unfortunately the acoustics of the hall did not do full justice to the beautiful tones produced by the choir. And at the beginning of the afternoon a saxophone quartet from the Polish air-force also gave a refined performance containing, as you might expect, pieces of Christmas music.
