EUROPEAN BUFFET
Exhibition, culture and gastronomy: of the three components of the programme, this is the one which allows participants to engage in a ‘grand tour’ of Europe, sampling the culinary traditions related to Christmas festivities. Orebrö was no disappointment in this respect, thanks to the skills of the teachers and students of the various delegations who worked wonders in the kitchen to make this ‘grand tour’ possible. In the school kitchens it was ‘coup de feu’ – all hands to the pump – for most of the afternoon of Monday December 11th, with the help of the school’s own chefs.
The evening dinner at which this European buffet was served took place as planned in the school’s refectory. There was no official opening and no speeches, but the organisers had invited the Head of all the Orebrö schools, the Reverend Bengt Ericsson, as well as the sponsors, and a surprise guest, Erling Svenungsson, a friend of ‘Mother Christmas’ who had come specially from the west coast of Sweden for the occasion.
The VIPs at the dinner
The guests were spoilt for choice as they helped themselves to this spread of regional dishes on offer, and they helped themselves liberally! And as you would expect, the event took place in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, as each guest found food for conversation among the various tasty dishes on their plates.
