Tim Fenn, Irish Hotels Federation

The hospitality management highlight of this day, April 8th 2011 was the paper by Mr. Tim Fenn, CEO of the Irish Hotels Federation IHF;
Mr. Fenn gave us very informative inside views of the Irish Hotels, currently being in a truly difficult situation: world economic setback, banking crisis, a somewhat too intensive boost of Irish economy during recent years (“over-borrowed”) etc. The earnings dropped from 6 bn € in 2007 to 4,7 bn. in 2010; the room occupancy rate went down from 64 % to 58%.
But IHF is very actively tackling the present problems with a convincing strategy: serious austerity measures for increased cost competitiveness, enhance marketing abroad: re-launching Ireland especially in UK, US, D and F; bank support for overhanging debts, removal of excess capacities: changing part of the hotels in senior citizens homes etc.

All seminar participants were all united in wishing Ireland the best of success in every respect.
