GALA EVENING: IT'S ONLY GOOD BYE
It is another European Christmas tradition to close the event with a great Gala Evening. It is usually a bit nostalgic moment since all participants realise that they are approaching the end and the following morning they will have to set off for home to face the reality. The organisers from Poznan did everything to make this evening a memorable experience and such it was.
The first thing worth mentioning was a beautifully decorated table, full of great sweet sculptures made of chocolate and sugar. Lovely Christmas songs and a great atmosphere of candlelit auditorium made this meeting a very special event.
The speeches contained a few beautiful and touching sentences, said by Mr Tauber, who was wishing all delegates a safe journey back home and wonderful Christmas time. At the same time he thanked all who in any way contributed to the success of the European Christmas 2001 in Poznan. Then he read an official letter to the AEHT, concerning the acceptance of the school from Minsk as a member of the Association.
Later on Mr Alfonso Benvenuto, vice-president of AEHT talked a lot about the need for co-operation, friendship and sharing. Then Christine Keller expressed her happiness about this meeting in Poznan, and she reminded everyone about the beginnings of the tradition of the European Christmas which dates back to the year 1992. All that started in Kayserberg with the first European Christmas where she said that she had had a dream and that dream came true.
Mr Roman Dawid Tauber introduced the team of his closest co-workers: Ms Danuta Przybylak, Miss Agata Buca, Mrs. Anna Górniak, Mrs. Joanna Kalisz, Ms Ewa Mucha-Szajek, Mrs Anna Wozniak, Ms Maria Grabinska and Mr Julian Dworzecki, the most devoted creators of the European Christmas, who received a round of applause.
Entertainment was a part of that final ceremony and each group got a chance to present a short performance. There were lots of presents and very many touching moments. The ones who were invisible, but who made their best to cater for the guests' culinary needs throughout the whole event, that is: the cooks, students working as waiters and waitresses and in the kitchen, received a wholehearted standing ovation which they truly deserved.
At the very end, an official and symbolic ceremony took place, namely passing the standard of AEHT onto the delegates from Kuressaare. It was Roman Dawid Tauber who passed it onto Inga Kupp and Olev Saluveer, the representatives of Estonia, all in the presence of Alfonso Benvenuto and Christiane Keller, greeted with an ovation from all delegates gathered at the Tenth European Christmas in Poznan. They are all looking forward to meeting in Estonia next year, even though, there might be even colder than in Poland.
