As you would expect, the Annual Conference is also the opportunity to bring together the members of the Executive Board, and, for the Presidium, the chance to work and to refine the details. Even on board ship there was a place for these meetings, as well as for two lecture/seminars on subjects directly relating to hospitality and tourism.

LECTURES

On Monday November 11th John S. Lohr delivered his lecture on the subject of ‘Solutions for the Training and Certification for the Hospitality and Tourism Sector’. The speaker, representing the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (http://www.ahlei.org), presented an outline of this concept which aims to provide hotels and schools with tools that will enable them to prepare the sector’s work-force for the demands of the 21st century. Despite the rather cramped room, the speaker was able to deliver his message effectively to an expert audience.

On Wednesday November 13th in the same room it was the turn of Herman Siebens, AEHT Vice-President and Director of the KTA Wemmel School in Belgium, to deliver his thoughts on a subject he is fond of, namely ‘No school without a director. For every organisation the main manager is an integral part of its success or its failure. But what leadership style makes schools successful, makes them efficient, makes them perform well, makes them responsible?’ Here too the audience was both interested and attentive.
