As part of the programme for the 15th Annual Conference the organisers had planned an ‘Italian
Evening’. The evening of Wednesday October 30th was indeed a great moment.

It was an evening that the guests will not forget quickly. In the new building where the paintwork was only just dry, the hall was impressive with its beautifully laid round tables and the small army of waiters and waitresses, the students of the IPSSAR Eleonora Ruffini on their best behaviour.

Guards at the door allow no-one to enter without their voucher. The beautifully uniformed band of musicians, the « Banda Canta et Scuscia » , strike up with deafening effect, parading inside and outside the hall to greet the 800-odd guests. And a group of pizzaioli, whose skills were more appropriate to showbiz than to the kitchen, with a fine array of VIP guests in the front row.

The atmosphere during the evening was a match for the food, drink and entertainment ! The evening was as Italian as could be, with Italian music, Italian pasta (Barilla !), Italian wines, an Italian band, ‘Lucas’ who are skilled at warming up an audience, and the famous pizzaioli who had come to give a demonstration of their skills, spinning the dough with astonishing dexterity. Not forgetting the Italian coffee (Jolly) and the Italian ice-cream to round off the evening.

Amidst the dishes, the dancing and the speech of President Louis Robert, who is obviously delighted with how the evening is shaping up, and Umidia Nardone who is just as delighted that she has succeeded in making everyone happy.

As a grand finale, a spontaneous flag dance with the delegations’ flags being waved on stage, and the refrain of « we are the champions » being taken up throughout the hall, and enthusiastic applause for the kitchen brigade and the young waiters and waitresses. A truly beautiful evening’s entertainment, which finished well after midnight, and which was continued by certain revellers in the nearby San Remo casino …
